The ceramics market 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The backgrounds

It had been foreseeable since mid-March 2020 that the Keramiktage 2020 would not be able to take place in their usual form - major events were prohibited without exception until 31 August 2020 due to the rapid spread of the corona virus.

So that we, the ceramists, and you, our public, do not have to completely forego the Ceramic Days 2020, we have been working at full speed on an "Keramikmarkt alternative" until mid-June 2020: The Ceramic Promenade. The concept envisaged extending Keramikmarkt , which usually takes place on Schlossplatz, across the centre of Oldenburg. Together with the ceramists, we would have played on small squares, empty shop stands and shared use of shops. However, in view of the Lower Saxony ordinance on the containment of the Corona virus, which was published in mid-June, we did not receive permission from the authorities due to the high security measures and were unable to realise this alternative concept.

And then?
Ceramics digital?

Of course it's not really possible! Handmade ceramic art actually wants to be taken in the hand, the body, the surface wants to be felt, even experienced. Because perfect function and aesthetic persuasiveness reveal themselves above all in the direct opposite. And, of course, also in the encounters and conversations with the makers, whose existence has been hard hit this year.

With our digital platform for ceramic art we support you.
Extensive information ensures that you can still get closer to the ceramists and their art.

Support in Corona times 2020, as well as 2021:

The Corona pandemic hit many ceramists hard - almost all markets, exhibitions, and orders were cancelled, thus eliminating the most important sources of income for the mostly solo self-employed ceramists. Since its foundation, the Werkschule - Werkstatt für Kunst und Kulturarbeit e.V. has dedicated itself to the promotion of professional artists:innen and has therefore not remained inactive.

This platform can function - up to the event in August 2021 and beyond - with your participation like a slimmed-down onlineKeramikmarkt :
From March 2021 onwards, all ceramists who have been juried in for 2021 can be found online with pictorial texts. Many of them have an online shop - have a look there! The interactive map also shows you where the artists and craftspeople work. Visit them in their studios and workshops and be enchanted by their ceramics!

Immerse yourself in the inspiring world of ceramics and find out more: The glossary gives you brief and concise background information and gives you a good introduction to ceramic work.

What's the point of it all?
The craft and art of ceramics is a highly valued cultural asset: thousands of years of tradition are combined with modern design, offering individual everyday accompaniment and aesthetic enjoyment. The ceramic industry is one of the oldest in the world. In order for it to live on, it needs your appreciation!
