Luster refers to the shiny metallic surface on glazes (e.g. faiences). The pure metal is deposited in various ways on the glaze surface. Suitable metals are gold, silver, platinum, copper, bismuth and tin. The applied metals combine with the glaze in an additional 3rd firing at low temperature (up to 750°).
