Light catcher

Airy, delicate porcelain images open up in all directions, catching the light and creating shadows. Delicate tower constructions stretch upwards, visually set in motion. Maria Pohlkemper builds her seemingly fragile, pure white and translucent bodies by hand from bone china porcelain she developed herself. The works of this ceramist, who was awarded the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021, arise from the tension between plan and chance: she uses deliberately high temperatures to promote the "warping" of the planned, original form in the firing. In this way, each piece becomes unrepeatable.
