Free as a bird

"Birds in all their freedom, gliding gracefully through the sky or strutting proudly on the ground. Capturing these movements is my challenge."

Noortje Meijerink makes unique turned porcelain pots, vases and jewelry, whose surfaces she decorates with the sgraffito technique. She is especially known for her bird motifs, which she scratches into the pre-treated surface of the vessels, atzt, creating creamy white drawings on the black background. Sometimes the objects are combined with metallic clay. The result is an elegant combination of porcelain with rich shiny silver. This combination is often found in her jewelry.
