Karin Bablok

Balance in black and white

A master of her craft: Karin Bablok places the thin-walled, pure white porcelain form in an equal dialogue with the black brush drawing - sometimes gesturally expressive and powerful, sometimes geometrically strict. To do this, she turns mainly axisymmetrical cylinders on the disc, which she then deforms or cuts in the leather-hard state - dynamic, concise edges balance the gestural formulation of the engobe painting. Her impetus? "The pursuit of clarity, concision and decisiveness".
