Claudia Craemer

Flaming Inferno
Deliberate shaping and trust in the creative power of fire are united in Claudia Craemer's colourfully executed, only seemingly crudely made raku works. The pieces, which are restrained in form, are fired at about 1,000 degrees, taken out of the kiln red-hot and dipped into combustible material, e.g. wood shavings, leaves, paper, etc.. Such flash-cooling, combined with the resulting fire and smoke, creates the force of the earthy-looking surface of her works. Each piece is different and cannot be repeated.
