Term for ceramics which, with or without glaze, have a hard, firm and dense body (term for a fired ceramic mass) after the firing process above 1200°C.
In an oxidizing firing atmosphere, e.g. in an electric kiln, it fires in a natural colour; in a reduced firing atmosphere, e.g. in a gas kiln, it fires in a grey colour.
